Making a living betting on soccer can be very satisfying. There are professional gamblers who become successful and make money. However, this depends, among other factors, on the rate of their winner soccer predictions. And what do we understand by a bettor's hit rate? This is the number of successful soccer predictions regarding the total number of predictions made. To calculate it, we divide the total number of bets placed during a period by the total number of bets made in that period. Next, the outcome is multiplied by 100.
This formula is expressed in the following way:
Hit percentage = (A / N) x100 where, A is the number of successful bets, and N is the total number of bets made. In principle, a successful bettor should hit more bets than he fails. This means that out of every ten bets, he should hit at least 6, giving a success rate of 60%. But how true is this? And also, how difficult would it be to maintain a hit rate betting on soccer of 60% or more?
It is difficult to succeed in the sports betting business, especially in forecasting soccer matches where there are so many variables involved. Reality indicates that even the best professionals only achieve hit rates of between 55 and 57%. Likewise, its benefits rarely exceed 110% in the long term. Remember that a bet's success probability is approximately the inverse of the odds settled by the bookie. So, what it means to maintain a success probability equal to or greater than 60%? It implies betting on average odds lower than or equal to 1.67. Can we say that a tipster that hits 85% of his bets is better than another that hits only 55%? Although it may surprise you, the answer is: no.
A tipster can have 80% or more winner wagers betting on average odds that range between 1.05 and 1.20. In that case, and according to statistics, by betting on very low odds, your success chances would be higher. Thus, it shouldn't take much effort to maintain this percentage. It would be enough for you to bet on openly favorite teams without having to analyze your bets a lot.
However, there is one crucial detail. Despite having a high hit rate, this bettor could be losing money. Furthermore, we could have an 80% success rate at average odds of 1.10. However, if the average stake of our successful bets is two and that of unsuccessful bets is 3.5, we would also be losing money. In this sense, a bettor with only 55% winner bets could be making money if the odds' average he bets on is 2.00. But, betting on odds like this involves a greater effort in finding value bets, having critical information, and handling stats. All this will be necessary to increase our success chances.
From this analysis, we can conclude that maintaining a hits rate above a particular value will depend on the average odds you bet. Likewise, the success of an advanced bettor does not depend only on his hit rate. It is a set of elements that go beyond just knowing about soccer. You have to carry on correct bankroll management and use effective betting strategies.
