AC Milan Performance In The Serie A 2021/22

The Serie A season has been very rough. The eternal rivals, Inter and AC Milan occupy the first two places, but the difference in points is so close that the possibilities of the teams change from week to week. In the first 17 matches, Milan has played 8 at home plate, winning 6, drawing 1, and losing 1; and 9 away matches, winning 6, drawing 2, and losing 1. It is clear that the team's performance has been excellent and balanced and has maintained its level of play in this first part of the season.

However, over the last eight matches, we have seen a drop in team performance that could put them in a dangerous position and get Inter to take off in first place. The average number of points per game throughout the season has been 2.29, but in the last eight matches, it has dropped 1.72, a drop of 23.6%. In the same way, in these last matches, the average of goals scored has decreased by - 17.5% (1.75 per match). But, the average of goals conceded has increased by + 11.6%.

One of the team's problems is that injuries have prevented regular players from participating in all matches. Despite Milan having an astounding number of goals scored (36) -only surpassed by Atalanta (37) and Inter (43) - their forwards have not been able to participate in all matches. Thus, this fact has forced the team to diversify its attack to score a goal at all costs. For instance, Olivier Giroud has scored four goals in eight matches. For his part, Pellegri has played in six matches, but he failed to score. Besides, the team's star Ibrahimovic, in 10 matches, has scored seven goals.

AC Milan has suffered two consecutive defeats, and one of the team's failings is their defense, which has lacked the strength to counter the attack of their rivals. One of the causes is that Danish defender Simon Kjaer suffered an injury. So, while being out, Milan has seen his defensive capacity diminish. At this moment, Milan is doing the best it can to stay in the battle for the Scudetto. The winter transfer market will be their opportunity to deal with their deficiencies in defense and midfield. They must repower these two sectors as soon as possible for the second half of the season.

Several names are already mentioned to make up for the absence of Simon Kjaer. One of the most striking is Malang Sarr (22), who plays for Chelsea. Yet, there is also talk of Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina and mainly Gleison Bremer of Turin. Similarly, the winter market should help Milan gain some strength after two other players, Franck Kessié and Ismaël Bennacer, leave to play the African Cup.

AC Milan must take care of many things if they want to stay in the championship battle. However, until this half of the season, everything indicates that the team has a great chance to win the Scudetto.
