It is impossible to think of La Liga or Spanish football without FC Barcelona coming to our minds. This club has achieved 26 league titles in its 122 years of existence. Immense, historical players have worn the Barcelona shirt. Likewise, the team has won every title available on this planet. In 2021, Forbes magazine listed it as the most valuable soccer team in the world ($4.76 billion). But, it is not a secret that the team has gone through difficult times in recent seasons. Indeed, it is now at a drastic crossroads, and it needs to have a great season in 2022-23. So, the club's great hope is to sign the Polish attacker Robert Lewandowski, the star of Bayern Munich and the best scorer in the world. But achieving this is far from easy since the team is going through all kinds of problems that start with financial ones. They do not have enough liquidity to sign all the players that Xavi Hernández needs to form a competitive team. Barcelona has even had to deal with lawsuits over advertising technology that would cost the club millions of dollars. So, if there is no money to buy the players they require, they need to sell some players on their roster. The problem: no player wants to leave the team, and thus, this fact has made it difficult to sell many players who are no longer a priority for the team. Then there is the problem on the pitch: Xavi Hernández has struggled (without luck) to find the strategies for the team to at least win La Liga.
The last time Barcelona won La Liga was in the 2017-18 season. Wow, that was a fantastic season. The team won 28 of the 38 matches it played, drew 9, and only lost one match. They scored 99 goals and only received 29 goals against. Of course, all this came from the hand of his former star, Lionel Messi. After that season, Barcelona could not win the La Liga... much less any of the international cups. Last season, Barcelona scored 68 goals, 12 less than the champions, Real Madrid. Therefore, one of the team's big problems was balancing a regular offense with the defense. The team's managers believe the solution to many of the problems is to bring in Lewandowski. The reason is that after Messi's departure a year ago, Barcelona's offense ceased to be feared and powerful. And no better attacker guarantees goals than the Polish Lewandowski. He scored 35 goals for Bayern in the Bundesliga last season and finished as the league's top scorer.
To think of Lewandowski with Barcelona is to think the team would change completely. Because Barcelona urgently needs a great attacker, someone who scores goals and on whom Xavi can focus the club's offense. This way, the team would function similarly to when Messi was their star attacker. With Lewandowski, they would direct the team's efforts to feed him with balls so that he could take care of the rest. Barcelona used this style of play for years with Messi. But the negotiation has been as complex as Barcelona's economic situation. Right now, anything can happen. One thing is true– if Robert Lewandowski arrives in Barcelona, we must prepare for a season full of unimaginable emotions.
